John Lynn Jefferies, MD, MPH, is Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Services at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He is also an attending Heart Failure Cardiologist at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He specializes in advanced heart failure and cardiomyopathy care of both children and adults. He is certified as a Diplomate in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiovascular Diseases as well as Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. Dr. Jefferies is also a Pediatrician and Pediatric Cardiologist.
Dr. Jefferies completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky. He subsequently completed a fellowship in General Internal Medicine while concomitantly receiving his Masters in Public Health. He went on to complete a combined fellowship in Adult Cardiovascular Diseases and Pediatric Cardiology at the Texas Heart and the Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Following his fellowship, Dr. Jefferies joined the faculty at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston as a heart failure/transplant cardiologist as well as cardiac intensivist. He went on to become the Director of Cardiovascular Genetics and the Director of Advanced Heart Failure before moving to Cincinnati to become the Director of Advanced Heart Failure and Director of Cardiovascular Genetics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. Jefferies has been the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator for multiple clinical studies that have been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and industry. He is the author or coauthor of over 140 peer reviewed manuscripts and he currently is the Chief Editor of two textbooks. He has delivered more than 250 lectures world-wide. His research interests include clinical trials, therapeutic strategies for heart failure, novel diagnostic and treatment modalities for heritable cardiovascular disease, quality improvement, quality of life in heart failure, and mechanical circulatory support.
Dr. Jefferies is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association and a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Heart Failure Society of America. He serves on the Ohio Board of Governors for the American College of Cardiology.
